GRANTS

a.         Gale Biography Resource.  The final reports to the California State Library for the Gale Biography Resource Center grant were delivered to the Library of California at the October 5th Board meeting.  Eligible libraries can still register to use the Gale Biography Resource Center by clicking http://goldcoastlibraries.org/galebiog.htm.  The grant application can be reviewed by clicking http://goldcoastlibraries.org/online-database.htm. 

b.         Cat-A-Link Gold.

d.                  Membership Promotion and Communications. Paul Adalian was informed of the CPGs concerns about copyright, consistency and correctness in the web directory and web page template on 10-9-00.

Digital Millennium Copyright Act is available in pdf format (see http://lcweb.loc.gov/copyright/legislation/dmca.pdf); Title II limits liability of service providers defined as “a provider of online services or network access, or the operator of facilities therefore.”  Must adopt and implement a policy for terminating infringing accounts and accommodate standard technical measures for copyright owners.  Limitations on storage at direction of users:  provider must not have requisite level of knowledge of infringing activity, must not receive financial benefit attributable to the infringing activity, must expeditiously take down or block access to infringing material upon notification and must file a designation of an agent to receive notifications of claimed infringement; suggested format is available in pdf format at http://www.loc.gov/copyright/onlinesp/agent.pdf
