b.      LETTER TO JAMES DAWE, President, Library Of California Board regarding  FUNDING.  Jean Scully.  Click HERE to see the letter.

Suggested Action:  Send/revise and send/decline to send.

c.       GOVERNOR’S BUDGET MESSAGE – Email from Liz and Diana

d.      GRANTS:  Marketing, online services, video conferencing, non-automated library conversion, electronic status analysis, linking multi-type OPACS,  conference scholarships, training workshops. 

Suggested Action: Give guidance on Core Planning Group priorities to D. Dowell and S. Kreissman for Sacramento meeting 1-28-2000.

4.                  TASK ASSISNMENTS AND DEADLINES

a.       Bylaws – Octavio Sifuentes, David Dowell, Bryan Thompson, David MacDonald, John Murray, Brian Reynolds.  (Fred Gardner – resource.)

b.      Long-Range Plan of Service – Name a task force.

i. We need a definition of services to be provided to libraries, an outline of transition of services from CLSA to LOC, and a set of minimum resource-sharing performance standards for each participating library, along with a process to ensure that all participating libraries meet the minimum standards.

ii. Budget.

c.       Completion of Application – ensuring all components exist and are correctly prepared.  Watchdog for the application process.

5.        LIBRARY OF CALIFORNIA BOARD MEETING IN SANTA BARBARA June 21, 22, 23.  The State Library is in negotiations with SB hotels.

Possible Actions:  Region VII could sponsor a reception or a dinner, arrange a tour, or do another recognition event for the LoC Board.

6.        GENERAL AWARENESS EVENTS AND CONTACTS

Reports from all members of meetings at which Region VII was discussed.

FROM THE NORTH (SOUTHBOUND):

      101 Freeway South to Main Street exit.  Stay on Main Street past the Mission and through downtown Ventura.  Turn left on Chestnut (first street past California); go uphill to parking lot on right.  Parking is on the hill behind the Library.  The Library entrance is to the left when facing the building.

FROM THE SOUTH (NORTHBOUND):

      101 Freeway North to California Street exit.  Turn right at top of ramp into the California Street lane (middle).  Go straight on California across Thompson and Santa Clara.  Turn right on Main Street.  Turn left on Chestnut; go uphill to parking on right.  Parking is on the hill behind the Library.  The Library entrance is to the left when facing the building.

Too Far:  If you see the Library (651 East Main St.) on your left, you have passed Chestnut Street.
