Call for GCLN Scholarship Applications

The Gold Coast Library Network (GLCN) is excited to let you know that we are providing scholarships this year. We will be offering two $400 scholarships:

  • One to a library school student to assist with educational expenses or conference attendance
  • One to an employee working in a GCLN library to assist with their professional development

Information about the scholarships, eligibility, and the application form can be found on the Scholarships page. Applications are due by March 25, 2014.

Job Opening: Library Resident at Santa Barbara City College

Santa Barbara City College is a comprehensive community college serving the south coast of Santa Barbara County. Position Summary: 
The Luria Resident is generously funded by The Luria Foundation. This is an opportunity for a recent library school graduate to explore community college librarianship by working in all areas of an award-winning community college library. This is a temporary part-time position and will be completed between January 21, 2014 – May 23, 2014 with the possibility for an extension into the following academic year.


  • Possession of a Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Library Science, Library and Information Science that was awarded in the last two years.
  • A career interest in community college librarianship.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.; adaptable to a rapidly changing environment, and ability to collaborate with various departmental service units.
  • Energetic, innovative, and flexible.

Register for the Fall Professional Development Day 2013: Bring ’em in! Successful Marketing and Outreach for Libraries

Join your regional library colleagues at the Santa Maria Public Library as we learn about and discuss successful marketing and outreach strategies for libraries. Bring your own experiences and questions, engage with our speakers, and take away new ideas to help serve your communities! The event will end with a tour of the Santa Maria Public Library.

Congratulations to the 2013 GCLN Scholarship Winners!

Friday, April 19, 2013 –

Amanda Grundmann is this year’s Employee Scholarship winner. She currently works at UCSB Library’s Interlibrary Loan department. Her goal is to work as an instruction librarian in an academic library, focusing on instructional design and services to distance education students. She will use the scholarship to attend the American Library Association Annual Conference in Chicago. There she will attend sessions and present the ALA New Members Round Table, Student Chapter of the Year Award.

Jodie Jonsson has been awarded our Student Scholarship. She is a reprographics technician at Cuesta College Library who also volunteers at the Morro Bay Library. As a long-time library patron, she finds library work extremely fulfilling. Jodie will use the scholarship to purchase needed textbooks and supplies to complete her Associate’s Degree in Library Technology at Cuesta College. She hopes to use this degree to find a full-time position at a local academic or public library.

Register for the 2013 GCLN Annual Meeting – Preparing for the Worst-Case Scenario: Emergency and Disaster Planning for Libraries

Join the Gold Coast Library Network for our Annual Meeting at the Santa Barbara Public Library, as we focus on the timely topic of emergency and disaster preparedness and response in libraries. Learn from presentations by colleagues and first responders on how to deal with fires, active shooters, and other emergency situations. We encourage you to bring questions and share your experiences.
