Mr. David Dowell Chair, Region VII Core Planning Group Gold Coast Library Network Cuesta College Rt. 1, Box 8106 San Luis Obispo, CA 93403
Dear Mr. Dowell:
Thank you for taking the time to write to me with your concerns regarding funding for the Library of California. I apologize for the extended delay in replying to you.
The Library of California board agrees with you that adequate State funding is essential to the success of the Library of California. The Board takes its role in the State budget process very seriously and is aware of the importance of developing widespread support for adequately funded programs and services. The California State Library, as a State agency, cannot be involved in lobbying efforts; it, however, can provide information and serve as an important resource as these efforts are developed and sustained.
At our February 2000 meeting, the Board held a strategic planning session to set priorities for the Library of California Board. The Board will continue this process at our August meeting. Your questions and concerns will be an integral part of the Board's considerations. By a copy of this letter I am forwarding your letter to Ms. Victoria Fong, Vice-President of the Library of California Board and chair of our strategic planning effort, so that your concerns can be incorporated into our planning meeting.
I appreciate your continuing support and concern for the Library of California and for the development of its programs in your region. Your continuing commitment is a validation of value of the Library of California in supporting libraries to better serve your patrons.
Sincerely,
/s/
James R. Dawe President. Library of California Board
